A timeless in-home newborn session in Montgomery County, Maryland
If you’re searching for a newborn session in Montgomery County, Maryland, an in-home lifestyle approach offers a relaxed, personal way to capture those early weeks. This session with Baby Shai was filled with meaningful details—from the delicate textures of his light blue zip-up to candid sibling moments with his older twin sisters. Whether you’re planning your first newborn portraits or adding to an ongoing family collection, these images show how a comfortable home setting can balance timeless heirloom portraits with authentic family personality.

Rejoining the Senter Family
I’ve had the joy of photographing the Senter family through so many milestones—maternity, newborn twins, first birthdays—and most recently, Zarah’s maternity session with the twins in tow. This time, we were finally able to welcome baby boy Shai into the frame. At just two weeks old, he was settled into life at home, surrounded by the gentle hum of his family. Montgomery County has been the backdrop for so many of our sessions together, and once again it offered the perfect light and familiarity for a peaceful in-home newborn session.

Styling the Newborn
One of the first things I noticed was Shai’s outfit—a soft light blue zip-up with delicate eyelet sleeves. It photographed beautifully, especially in close-ups that captured the curl of his tiny fingers. We also swaddled him in a neutral wrap for a few portraits in the bassinet, creating those heirloom-style images that feel timeless no matter how many years pass. What should a newborn wear for photos? Soft, textured fabrics in subtle colors tend to photograph best, especially when they complement the light and palette of your home.

Older Sibling Energy
Shai’s twin sisters have known their baby brother for about two weeks now—and they had exactly zero interest in pausing their own adventures for a photoshoot. This is the first time I’ve photographed them where they truly wanted nothing to do with the camera, which, in its own way, made for some of the most honest sibling images we could capture. Can we include siblings in newborn photos? Absolutely—even if cooperation isn’t guaranteed. Sometimes, the fleeting glances and quick walk-aways say just as much about family life in this season as a perfectly posed portrait.

A Few Familiar Faces
While our focus stayed on Shai, it was lovely to see Jay’s parents again and weave them into a few quiet moments. Including grandparents—whether front and center or simply nearby—adds another layer of meaning to these early days.

Montgomery County Newborn Sessions
Every newborn session is a balance—between crafting the serene, timeless portraits you’ll treasure forever and embracing the small, unscripted moments that make your family uniquely yours. In-home sessions in Montgomery County give us the freedom to capture both, surrounded by the comfort of your own space.
