Katie and Mick are impressive people. They planned a wedding during a pandemic while simultaneously planning a move to England- yes the country across the Atlantic. This meant their wedding was also a farewell party. And oh boy was it a party. But let’s backup.
I really loved how family oriented this wedding was. Katie got ready in their home. The wedding was in Mick’s parent’s backyard. That created this really beautiful personal touch throughout the day. During her getting ready, Mick sent over a gift for her. The best gifts always come in an envelope and a playlist (that her amazing maid of honor helped coordinate). Katie’s jaw dropped and it took a minute before she could explain. Mick booked them concert tickets in England, a walking Harry Potter tour of London and a spin on the London Eye! As he said, the adventure continues across the pond!
We packed up and headed to his parent’s house for their first look. Always a favorite moment-there is so much love in that moment when a groom see’s his bride for the first time. While we waited for the ceremony to start Katie and Mick said the words every photographer loves “Let’s keep taking portraits”. We wound up getting 20 minutes extra of portraits! The ceremony was short but sweet, with the brother of the groom officiating. There were moments of laughter and tears, her Mom almost got stuck in her veil, and as always, ending with a kiss.
Katie is a woman with an eye for detail and it really showed. Everywhere you looked, beautiful decor added to the early spring romance. The tent on the lawn was elegantly decorated, with a boxwood green wall and custom sign taking centerstage behind the sweetheart table.
When the groomsmen enter shotgunning beers, you know a party is about to go down. After the first dance, speaches and parent dances, the dance floor was never empty. This was one of the first weddings with high vaccination rates and people were ready to dance the pandemic away. I promise what you are seeing is the PG version of that dance floor- good work friends and family! You sent Katie and Mick off to London on an epic foot!
