Micah and Mark were an absolute delight to photograph. Micah and I went to college together at Notre Dame of Maryland. If you think she looks familiar, you are right. She was the maid of honor at Kara and Andrew’s wedding (can see their wedding here). I saw there was a handsome young man with Micah but you know weddings- they are fast paced and as a photographer, there isn’t a lot of time to catch up.
A few weeks later I saw a very exciting post on her Instagram- Mark had popped the question! She would later tell me that at the time of Kara’s wedding, Mark had already asked for her family’s blessing. Which of course she had no idea about. When he did propose, she was worried he hadn’t asked so she kept saying “No, wait, did you ask my parents?” not realizing he was on top of it. The no was quickly clarified to a yes! I love stories like that. The guy obviously knows a proposal is about to happen but for us ladies, it’s a complete surprise and it’s so funny what your mind goes to first in that moment.
They chose gorgeous Old Town Alexandria for their engagement session- a popular dating spot for them. One thing I love about city engagement sessions is that every block is a new background to play off, and Old Town especially has the water views, and then the historic city views. I think this creates such a natural range of photos for couples- lots to interact with and lots of colors. I mean, that blue wall was just thrilling! The perfect accent for Micah and Mark. The romance of Old Town just compliments them so perfectly. Their January wedding is going to be just as gorgeous – though we’ll all have to be patient!
