A personal micro-wedding at the bride’s family home on the Chesapeake Bay
Elisabeth and Cliff contacted me a month or so into the pandemic. Like so many their wedding plans have been forced to change. Their original wedding plans however were a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic so it must have felt extra cruel to see the travel bans. While there were no white sandy beaches, if you have to have a backup plan, our own Chesapeake Bay is a wonderful substitution. And to make it even more personal, this gorgeous property is Elisabeth’s parent’s home.
I know some people are worried about downsizing and not having the “full wedding experience” but, look at these photos and tell me what is missing (besides a few guests). In just 4 hours we were able to squeeze in getting ready, ceremony, reception details, wedding portraits and a little bit of reception coverage. We just moved their first dance (on the dock!) and cake cutting before dinner. A little different but we got it captured and then they could party all night with the family!
For a couple who scrapped everything and had to replan a whole wedding (new venue, new vendors- everything) they were so calm. Elisabeth only got the wedding day jitters once she stepped into her dress but that is normal. Cliff also was steely calm- welcoming guests, and being a great host. No nerves until the guests took their seats and he saw his bride walking down the aisle. I could see the tears welling during the vows but it wasn’t until they walked back down the aisle that they both shed a few happy tears! After the ceremony, they mingled with their guests until I got steal them away for portraits. And even though it was boiling hot in the sun, you would never know it. I love these bright sunny days- they suit weddings so perfectly- have you ever seen a couple glow so much? It’s that wedding day love!
