The bright natural light poured through the windows of Ayesha and Marcus’s Annapolis home, casting a warm glow that seemed to mirror the radiance of the expecting mother herself. As a photographer who specializes in documenting life’s most precious transitions, I find maternity sessions particularly moving – each one a unique celebration of anticipation, connection, and love.
When I arrived for their maternity session, the thoughtful design of their home immediately struck me. Ayesha had a clear vision – she wanted portraits that felt contemporary and clean while authentically capturing their relationship. We transformed a small corner of their light-filled Annapolis home into an impromptu studio space, perfect for the Calvin Klein-inspired aesthetic she envisioned.
The resulting portraits showcase not just their natural poise (they could easily moonlight as professional models!), but the gentle touches and outbursts of giggles that reveal their deep bond. It’s these authentic moments of connection that transform a beautiful photograph into a treasured memory.
To balance the polished studio look, we moved into their kitchen to capture more relaxed, lived-in moments. These images tell the story of quiet Sunday mornings and shared dreams about the future – the everyday magic that makes this journey so special. Though you’d never know it from the natural feeling of these images, the entire kitchen scene was actually created with carefully positioned flash photography to enhance the existing light while maintaining that cozy atmosphere.
As the afternoon progressed, we ventured out to one of Annapolis’s secret treasures – a hidden beach tucked away from the usual tourist paths. After a quick outfit change that complemented the coastal setting perfectly, Ayesha and Marcus walked along the shoreline, occasionally stopping to embrace as gentle waves lapped at the sand. The juxtaposition of their contemporary home portraits against these serene beach scenes created a collection that feels both elegant and intimately personal.
What makes documenting this chapter even more meaningful is knowing it’s just the beginning of their story. As part of their motherhood collection, I’ll return to capture their newborn portraits and later, their baby’s one-year milestone. There’s a special privilege in witnessing a family’s evolution through these significant moments.
Their maternity session embodies that perfect balance of elegance and authenticity – celebrating both the sophisticated style they value and the heartfelt connection that forms the foundation of their growing family.

I’m a Maryland wedding photographer with more than a decade behind the camera, combining thoughtful direction with the instinct to recognize when a moment needs room to unfold. My work blends fine art composition, editorial portraiture and documentary storytelling, from the quiet anticipation of a wedding morning to the last song on a crowded dance floor.
Beyond weddings, I bring that same intentional approach to maternity, newborn and family sessions throughout Maryland, Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
