A Lifestyle Newborn Session with Twin Sisters in Montgomery County, Maryland
There’s a quiet intimacy to returning to a home after the babies arrive—especially when there are two of them. Just a few weeks earlier, I had photographed Zarah and Jay in their backyard, full of anticipation. Now, I was back, camera in hand, documenting the reality they’d been waiting for: Lillian and Autumn, just four and a half pounds each, finally home.
The nursery was warm and calm, with cream walls and twin pink cribs set side by side. One held a mobile of crocheted unicorns; the other, a swirl of delicate swans. Small details, lovingly chosen, already beginning to tell their daughters apart. The space felt peaceful, lived in—not overly styled or perfect, but full of intention and care.
Newborn sessions always carry a shift in energy from maternity. Where maternity is playful and open, these first days are slower. There’s a softness to the way parents move—the way mom lifts and rocks, the way dad wraps the swaddle and adjusts a pacifier. With twins, it becomes almost choreographed. One baby is soothed while the other stirs. A quiet rhythm settles in.
Lillian and Autumn took turns being more alert, but both spent much of the session curled gently into the arms that already knew them. That’s the part that always moves me most—the way parents memorize their babies so quickly. Even in the blur of sleepless nights, there’s this deep, anchoring love.
Frankie the dog made his appearances, proudly sporting a “Big Brother” bandana. He trotted in and out of the frame, curious but gentle, clearly still adjusting to his new role—and doing so with endearing patience.
This is the heart of the Complete Motherhood Collection: to document the whole story, not just the highlight moments. From anticipation to arrival, from soft spring light to quiet nursery mornings. Over this next year, I’ll continue photographing this family’s firsts—the growth, the connection, the beautiful unfolding.
